Frequently Asked Questions

General

Will my child know they’re being monitored?

The agent runs as a background Windows service. It doesn’t show a visible window or system tray icon. However, a tech-savvy teenager could find it in the Windows Services list or Task Manager. We recommend being transparent with your children about monitoring — it builds trust and is more effective long-term.

Does this work on phones or tablets?

Currently, only Windows PCs and laptops are supported. macOS support is planned. There are no plans for mobile device monitoring at this time.

How much bandwidth does the agent use?

With default settings (30-second capture interval, JPEG quality 80, batch upload), expect approximately 50–100 MB per hour of active use. The agent’s screenshot diff detection skips unchanged frames, so idle screens use almost no bandwidth.

Can I monitor multiple children on the same device?

Each device is assigned to one child. If multiple children share a device, assign it to the primary user. A shared device can only generate alerts under one child’s profile.

AI Analysis

How accurate is the AI detection?

The system uses a two-tier AI approach:

  1. Haiku (fast triage) — screens every screenshot
  2. Sonnet (thorough review) — reviews borderline cases

This minimises both false positives and false negatives. Confidence scores below 0.30 are discarded, scores above 0.75 are accepted, and anything in between gets a second opinion.

No AI system is perfect. We recommend reviewing alerts in context rather than acting on them blindly.

Can the AI read text in screenshots?

Yes. The AI extracts visible text from screenshots as part of its analysis. This helps it understand context — for example, distinguishing a news article about violence from a violent chat conversation.

What happens if the AI makes a mistake?

If you receive a false positive alert, dismiss it. This doesn’t affect future analysis (the AI doesn’t learn from your dismissals in the current version), but it keeps your alert list clean.

Privacy

Who can see my child’s screenshots?

Only members of your family account. Screenshots are encrypted at rest and decrypted on-demand when viewed. No one outside your family — including our staff — has access to the decrypted images.

How long are screenshots stored?

Default is 3 days. You can configure this from 1 to 30 days in Settings. With privacy mode enabled, screenshots are deleted after 24 hours.

Can I delete all my data?

You can delete individual children (which removes all their data) or disable monitoring. Full account deletion with data purge is planned for a future release.
