Roles & Permissions

Each family member has a role that determines what they can do.

Viewer

The most restricted role. Viewers can see everything but cannot make changes. Ideal for:

  • Grandparents who want to stay informed
  • Extended family members
  • Older siblings who help monitor younger ones

Parent

Can manage children, devices, and policies. Cannot manage family membership. Ideal for:

  • Co-parents who share monitoring responsibility
  • Guardians who need full day-to-day control

Admin

Full control over the family account, including member management and family settings. The person who creates the family is automatically the admin.

Only one admin per family. To change the admin, use the Transfer Ownership function.

Changing Roles

Admins can change any member’s role:

  1. Go to Family
  2. Find the member
  3. Click the role dropdown
  4. Select the new role
  5. Save

The change takes effect immediately. The member’s next API request will use the new permissions.
